Epoxy Flooring – Instant
Epoxy resin and polyamine hardener in equal ratio make up epoxy. The two components must be combined before application. Temperature and time govern how long you can apply it after mixing. When using colored epoxies, the epoxy’s color is imparted by tinting the resin. In the absence of color, it applies as a clear coating. Epoxy coatings cure, as opposed to paint, which dries. Epoxy’s volume of solids composition affects its thickness and ease of application. In other words, 100% of solids epoxy indicates that after it cures, 100% of the substance is on the floor. 50% solids mean that after the product has dried, 50% will still be on the floor. As the epoxy cures, the carrier agents—water or solvents—used in the lower solids product evaporate.
